about Doc Splendid

I’ve been a frontend engineer for the web since 1996. My credits include the official The Apprentice video player (among many other video players), two content management systems for Yahoo!, and myplay (the world’s first digital music locker service, launched 1999).

After nearly a decade in Silicon Valley and a year in London, I now make my home in Bristol.

My focus on Javascript, looking to the future, is on creating new programming patterns which utilise the functional, expressive nature of the language. While MVC is a fine pattern for a classical inheritance language, I believe the application of that pattern to Javascript leads to extreme code bloat. It also encourages pseudoclassical programming, in order to apply the pattern in familiar ways.

I’m not looking for contracts presently, but I do offer group lectures and one-on-one instruction in advanced Javascript.
